Rounded Rectangle: Five Easy-to-grow
         Houseplants

Golden Pothos is an undemanding, fast-growing plant for either sunny or shady areas. It’s a colorful plant, with green and yellow leaves.

Snake plant, also called mother-in-law’s tongue, has long pointy leaves. It can grow up to four feet tall, so choose a dwarf variety for a smaller area. It thrives in low light.

Cast-iron plant is a nearly indestructible plant with dark green, leathery leaves. It isn’t showy, but tolerates poor growing conditions like low light, drafts, and irregular watering.

African violets are pretty plants with red, pink, white, blue, or purple flowers that bloom continuously. They do need bright, indirect light, like morning sun filtered by a curtain. You should use a fertilizer made especially for them.

Jasmine is a sweet-smelling houseplant with small, star-shaped flowers that appear from winter to early spring. They need four to six hours of bright light every day.
Text Box: Winter Plant Care and Maintenance

Extremely cold and dry winters can take a toll on trees, shrubs, and perennials. Even though these plants are in their dormant stage, they still require moisture.
Water them periodically and add mulch to help preserve the moisture and keep the ground from repeatedly freezing and thawing.

Deer and rabbits can also cause damage to the landscape. A tree wrap can be placed around the trunk of a tree to protect it from hungry rabbits. We also recommend a deer and rabbit repellent by the makers of Cedar Creek. It is a safe, organic product that lasts 6-8 weeks.

Established landscapes need some TLC over time. Cutting back, trimming, or thinning out branches from trees and shrubs and roses can rejuvenate the landscape. This is best done while the plants are in their dormant stage in late winter. Make an appointment now to be put on our list of maintenance jobs to be done later this winter or early spring.

Recycle/Re-use Plastic Greenhouse Pots & Boxes

We want to do our part in creating a greener environment by recycling used greenhouse and nursery pots instead of adding more waste into our landfills. You can help by dropping your unwanted, empty plastic pots into the bright blue recyclable container located along the driveway between the exit and the shop. If you need pots you are welcome to take them, but we ask that you notify a store employee beforehand. Please use this container for greenhouse and nursery pots only- no other plastic or recyclables. Another way to “Go Green” is to return and re-use the cardboard carry-out boxes every time you come back to shop instead of throwing them away.
